Background
Baseball New Zealand (BBNZ) is the national sports organisation (NSO) responsible for the growth and development of baseball in Aotearoa, from grassroots to elite levels. With four regional associations, 21 clubs, and thousands of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters, BBNZ plays a vital role in developing the sport here in NZ. BBNZ is recognised and partnered by both Sport NZ and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), delivering national and international tournaments & events, providing national frameworks for community grassroots participation and NZ teams that compete on the world stage to expand the game of baseball and its presence across the country.
Challenge
As a small organisation, BBNZ faced several challenges, including:
- Disorganised Document Management: Critical files were stored in multiple locations, making collaboration difficult.
- Security Risks: Without a structured IT security framework, the organisation was vulnerable to cyber threats.
- Outdated Technology: The team needed modern laptops and a managed IT environment to work efficiently.
- Inconsistent IT Support: As a highly mobile organisation, BBNZ required reliable remote IT support, especially for staff travelling internationally.
- Limited Access to Nonprofit Benefits: Their initial application for Microsoft’s nonprofit programme was declined, restricting access to cost-effective software solutions.
